About Paul Hymers
Paul Hymers has been a Building Control Officer since 1984, having worked for several local authorities in Kent. A qualified Chartered Building Engineer, he published his first book in 1999 on Home Extensions having witnessed hundreds of home extenders stumbling into the same pitfalls. He realized that all of the DIY books at the time were years out of date and did nothing to guide homeowners who were employing builders and tradespeople to carry out building work and simply wanted to understand and control their projects.

The success of his first title prompted seven others, and inspired other surveyors in the industry to write similar guides and expand the genre.
